Title:The bacteria Thiobacillus Q was the dominant species in a chemostat enrichment because it had a selective advantage under the conditions in this study. It had ability to obtain energy from low concentrations of reduced sulphur compounds in the presence of an organic substrate , this confers an advantage on this type of organism during competition with other heterotrophs.
